Ten didn’t want to break Johnny’s heart.
He told himself it wasn’t going to happen. He told himself they were young, that there were so many people who could love Johnny, better than he could. People who could love Johnny in public, people who Johnny could get married to one day, people Johnny could build a future with. Ten wasn’t the only person Johnny could love. Johnny was sure to get over it.
Ten’s own heart didn’t matter. What mattered was following the path to the future he had planned out, and if Ten’s heart broke a little along the way, then it was just collateral damage.
