Summary
Pete is a rational person. He knows that only one of those options is viable. He knows one of those options will only drag him deeper into the hole he’s dug for himself. He knows he should turn the phone off, remove the sim card, smash it to pieces and burn the remains. He knows. He knows. He knows.
He grabs the phone, opens the text, and stares. Then he types out a one-word reply, tosses it back on the counter, and pulls a black sweatshirt out of his closet.

Summary
Korn had offered them a singular room with a singular bed without any prior consultation, a fact that made Pete feel more uncomfortably seen than anything up until now. Obviously, everyone knew he was with Vegas; he made no attempts at hiding it. You don’t dramatically quit a job with a retirement package consisting entirely of a respectable funeral in order to run off with the enemy and not have everyone know, Pete was aware of that. Still. It felt unnerving, somehow, to have Korn know and recognize it, like the bottom of his stomach had dropped out, like his eyes were in every corner of this room. It can’t be any better for Vegas, because at least Pete had lived in this house for a decade before, knew the way things here worked. Vegas had no footing.
Vegas and Pete move back into the main family house, and try to reclaim something lost.
