Mom and Bro decide that it's about time their children knew the truth.
Slight AU: No SBURB, and therefore no ectobiology. Dave and Rose are related the good old-fashioned way.
There's a LOT of canon extrapolation going on here to make this AU, but I think the bits are quite believable, given what we know of Bro/Dirk, Mom/Roxy, primarily.
This was an honest attempt to write something that wasn't smutty. To quote a phone call about it, "It's so fluffy. It's so ridiculously fluffy. So sweet you might go into a diabetic coma."

Summary
Natal celebrations, material donations, and awkward congratulations. That's basically what birthdays entail.
Homestuck has a bunch of friends [?] to provide the first, a bunch of acquaintances to offer him the second, and a brother to help him avoid the third as much as possible. They do not show up in this order. He also has a loving father to provide some other service, and it probably rhymes with preemptive rejuvenations or something.
It's a pretty important day, and he's still waiting for the damned story title to drop.
