Summary
Melissa’s own skin feels bizarre in her mouth for only a moment, until she’s marveling at how fresh it is. How alive it is, how it oozes onto her tongue, the tangy, organic notes of the flesh, hints of her own pheromones and Shauna’s, and the metallic flavor of the blood mixing together. She stayed away from meat altogether for twenty-five-some years after they were rescued, trying to give Kelly the distance she needed to keep everything she did out there buried deep, and it worked. She wasn’t having any cravings, any desires, any longing to reclaim who she once was; she loved her wife and her kid and her normal, boring life, and it worked up until Shauna fucking Shipman clawed her way back into her life with familiar blue-burning rage in her eyes and a knife in her hand, again.

Summary
For AUgust day 6, prompt: Broken up
She shakes her head and invites herself in, watching Shauna nestling in the cluttered back seat; napkins and paper bags, a bunch of notebooks, jackets and flannel shirts, water bottles and cans. Natalie hit the nail on the head about not having a home; Shauna definitely has been living in her car.
With Jackie's perfume all over it.
"Are you even sober?" Her majesty groans.
"Well, nah, but I have been driving under the influence since I was fourteen. We'll be alright."
"We survived worse crashes." Shauna burps and snuggles on a cardigan, mellowing out already at her home, home that doesn't exist anymore, a home that she consumed after destroying any tenderness of it.
"M'kay, how long since you broke up with Jeff?" Jackie broke up with Jeff at least five times since Natalie had any recollection of their existence as a couple.
"Dunno, weeks?"

“Try and patch up something of what used to be us. I missed you— Miss you, right now. Something was gone from my life and I didn’t know how to handle it. Yes, that’s immature. Yes, I probably should’ve gotten over it. But I didn’t want to. I—I didn’t want it to be over, forever, just like that.”
“You can want all you like. That doesn’t change that there’s two of us here.” Shauna glares. “Don’t I have a say in this?”
“Of course you do,” and Jackie’s eyes look up at her from behind her lashes; pleading to go easy on her.
Shauna considers it; takes in the sagging shoulders and circles under her eyes. Jackie does look worse than she ever did before. College evidently didn’t result in a reinvention of herself, or at least not in the way she mused on in high school.

In the wake of their time in the wilderness and presumed dead to the world, Shauna and Jackie both need to adjust to life without each other, and with bodies that no longer completely feel like their own. Fall of 1999, Providence, is the setting for an unexpected reunion.
