Summary
Somewhere between the man, his question, and Reigen’s reminiscing, the lights of the camera flashing melt away, morphing into a reel of film burned at the edges and rapidly flicked through – hundreds of gnats flying head first into a streetlight, the stench of bile blending together with bags of trash that are beginning to leak, clinking glass as the ice fractures and fills with non-alcoholic bubbles of an extra lemon sour – change, change, change.
‘I want to be somebody’.
_In between accusations and uncomfortable questions, Reigen ponders his childhood, the what ifs, and everything that could have been before Mob.
(Spoilers for season 2 episode 6 'Poor, Lonely, Whitey' and episode 7 'Cornered ~True Identity~').

Summary
It’s a point of nostalgia, an immediate reaction to whenever she reminisces about Joel — what she imagines a father would've been had Ellie ever met hers — the man who taught her how to shoot a gun, to swim, to play the guitar. The man who slaughtered towns to rescue her. The man who betrayed her dying wishes to save her; the man who made it worth for her to live.
She barres across the frets, fingers splaying over the wood. It’s different now. Everything’s different.
There’s more blood on her hands — blood that never washes off no matter how hard she scrubs — and there’s no Dina sitting by the window, eyes closed and wind blowing through her hair as she listens to Ellie play.
---
Or what is left of Ellie after Santa Barbara — an empty farm, a lost knife, and a hole in her chest.
