Abby didn't want to kill Joel- that would be a mere kindness.
It would be too swift no matter how she did it, and there would be no real consequences to him. He wouldn't be around to experience them.
So she decided to play friendly in Jackson for awhile- and learned from others what would break him if.. taken away.
Joel should be left crumbling.
