Joe suddenly realized that he had sketched a portrait of Booker for three days in a row, all detailed in different expressions and poses, but all with an unfathomable sadness masked within his eyes and a tautness to his jovial expression like he forgot what it was like to laugh. Joe realized that he wasn’t sure what Booker looked like anymore. Couldn’t place the wrinkles around his eyes. Couldn’t recall the tilt of his lips, or the way his eyes looked in the sunlight, or the way his hair fell after a long night of anxiously running his hands through it.
