    Summary

The woman before Toshinori studied him with her strangely piercing eyes for a long moment. He felt her gaze trail over his furrowed brows, his perpetual frown, his hunched shoulders, and the bouquet of flowers he thumbed sadly.

“He meant a lot to you,” she said.

“Of course,” Toshinori murmured, trailing a bony finger among the flower petals in his grasp. “He was everything to me.”

“I know what it’s like. To lose someone dear to you,” she said. “So many things I wish I could’ve told them before they passed.” She had a distant look in her eye.

“I just wish… I just wish I had more time…” There was a deep exhaustion to his words. His shoulders slumped impossibly further, like he was Atlas, bearing the weight of the sky.

Time travel doesn't work the way people think it does. The past, as it turns out, is a stubborn, immutable thing. A stranger with a peculiar time travel quirk gives Toshinori one more chance—not to save his successor, but to say a final goodbye.
