Dina can’t feel her body as she rides through the front gates on the back of her horse, Ellie’s mare trailing behind her. Her mind feels spacy, shifting between past and present. The fight keeps flashing through her head. Ellie fighting with the infected near the edge of the cliff. Her high pitched scream as they both tripped, Ellie tumbling over. The desperate grasping at straws in her head about how someone could survive such a fall only lead to one conclusion. They couldn’t. Ellie was gone.
