Their trek to Hawkins Lab starts alright. But after about ten minutes of a—frankly suspicious—lack of Demogorgon sightings, Steve starts not-so-subtly suggesting they pick up the pace, which Jonathan, evidently, takes as a personal attack, so the next thing Nancy knows, the two of them are trying so hard to outpace each other that they end up yards ahead of her and Dustin.
"How do you even put up with them?" Dustin asks, watching Steve and Jonathan from afar with a wrinkled nose.
"Practice," Nancy mutters.

Summary
Mom and Will are visiting them, not for the first time since they went off to college of course but it’s special nonetheless, and fun. El and Hopper were supposed to come too, but unfortunately El got sick and Hopper stayed behind with her. It’s a shame they couldn’t come, next time El comes out they’ll make it extra fun for her, Nancy’s already promised over the phone.
What makes this visit special to him is what he’s got planned for Will. He knows his little brother struggles with growing up gay in Hawkins. Will knows he’ll always be there for him, and that mom, El, Hopper, Nancy and his friends always will too, but even so it can of course feel very lonely, not knowing any other person who’s gay, at least as far as Will knows.
So today he’s taking Will to see some of the gay scene in New York.

Summary
After the exorcism in the cabin, after the gate closing, Will is in the hospital, Joyce is reeling from the loss of Bob and Jonathan just tries to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders as he takes care of his family while simultaneously dealing with being in love with the girl of his dreams. With Nancy by his side and with a little help from his friends he manages to figure out how to be in two places at once as they move through the chaos to a new normal.
