Summary
If Tav left now, he would still have a deep well of untainted memories to comfort him in the middle of the night when he mourned the love he lost to fear. If he stayed, it would only be a matter of time before Astarion crossed a line that Tav couldn’t forgive him for and ruined every past moment by association. His Astarion was gone from the world, and Tav needed to say his goodbyes before he was gone from his heart as well.
When the changes in Astarion after his ascension become too much for Tav to ignore, he resigns himself to heartbreak and leaves his love behind. The loss comes as a wake-up call to Astarion, who must find his way back to the man he once was and pray that it's enough.
