Summary
Buck surprises him, he blinks slowly, once, then a second and a third time – I love you. – it’s simple, three words, three blinks. I love you. And then again. I am here.
And if Eddie had any doubts, they’re gone now.
Buck’s eyes are clear and intense, and Eddie can feel the love in that simple movement, in that simple gesture.
He wants to say it back, he needs to say it, but the words get stuck in his throat, choked back by the lump of emotions that is slowly suffocating him, because Eddie loves and then loses, it’s a pattern.Buck is in the hospital. Again.

Summary
Eddie screams.
He doesn’t realise it until his voice breaks, and then the screaming turns to frantic, desperate pleas. The only thing his mouth remembers how to say is Buck’s name; a litany, a prayer. An angry, furious threat. Because Eddie is tired - so, so tired - of almost losing Buck. Of almost having him snatched out from between his fingertips, time and time again. He’s tired of the powers that be trying to take Buck away from him.
They can’t have him; no man, or god, or divine plan is allowed to steal his person away. Eddie won’t let them.

Summary
Shannon's birthday is on her headstone, and Eddie and Chris are gone—still gone, gone right now, or maybe just… gone. Which is fine.
No one promised Buck anything—which is, unfortunately, becoming the theme of his entire fucking life, and—
What’s not fine is that it’s Shannon’s birthday, and he can’t just… do nothing, and Buck’s always liked sunflowers—he likes them for their heliotropism, the way that younger flowers follow the path of the sun, day in and day out, turning toward the warmest, brightest part of the world. Dedicated. Undeniably alive. Only ever trying to grow.
He wonders if Shannon liked sunflowers. He wonders if she even liked celebrating her birthday.
Buck’s been wondering a lot, lately, about Shannon—all the things they have in common.
Then, he gets hit by a car.

Or: Eddie moves to El Paso, and Buck gets a hobby. Shannon does not haunt the narrative so much as she violently possesses it.

Summary
Adriana doesn’t tell their parents that she’s going to LA. She doesn’t tell Eddie, either—or ask, for that matter.
She does ask Chris, and he thinks it’s a good idea—says as much, on the phone, and doesn’t say much else.
“Buck will probably be hovering,” is what Chris does volunteer.
It still surprises her when the man who opens the door is not Eddie. It’s—Captain America, is the thing that actually comes to mind—a man close to a foot taller than she is, if not more than that, with blond curls and broad shoulders, and he’s got a question in his very blue eyes that’s probably less friendly than the one he actually asks her.
“Uh,” he says. “Can I help you?”
