Summary
Beatrice had always had a coolness to her. Always calm, collected, and well, cold. Once she cared about someone she was sure to show it, however, Beatrice was the kind of person who put the mission above anything. Including the people she loved.
Once Ava arrived at Cats Cradle, she'd done her best to avoid the new halo-bearer. But as fate should have it, her avoidance only pushes them closer together. Pushes Beatrice to care in a way she hadn't for any other of the sisters. Like an infection, Ava's warmth started to creep up her fingers from their very first touch.
She should've expected Mother Superion to assign her as the halo's bodyguard following the disaster of the Vatican. However, it didn't mask the displaced excitement she'd found within herself at the thought of being her protector. Not the halo's, but Ava's.

Summary
Beatrice is leaving Switzerland the next morning. Ava is going back to Spain too. If they end up one night in the same bar, then in the same bed, it's their business and no one else's.
Three years later, Beatrice has just opened a new department of her parents' company in Spain when someone decides to ring her doorbell.

Thankfully, Lilith understands and at the end of the day, she brings Lilith with her because she’s very good at what she does. “Then let’s go get started.” They make their way inside, “you just know this Dr. Silva is going to be a kook though. She probably wears wicker shoes or treats broken bones with laughter or some shit.”

“So… you’re not mad?” The alcohol was already settling, warm in her stomach, and the words were out before she could stop them.
“Mad?” Ava asked. “Why would I be mad?”
“I’m…not entirely sure.” Beatrice had run through this conversation a thousand times in her head. Sometimes, the scenario ended with Ava telling her they couldn’t be friends anymore. Sometimes, it ended in a way that would make Beatrice blush to think about. Either way, she never pictured it being this casual.
“It’s cool.”
“It’s – it’s ‘cool?’”
Ava shrugged. “Yeah. I mean, I used to have a ridiculous crush on you too, so I guess we’re even, right?”

Ava held up a thin book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. “Apparently, if a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, they get a wish and they'll get better!”
Beatrice froze, “Ava….”
“Don’t worry, Bea,” Ava said, her eyes softening, “I–I know it won’t work. I’m just going a little stir crazy with nothing to do all day. Jillian cancelled my tutors, she says I need to focus on getting better, which we both know isn’t gonna happen.”
Beatrice pursed her lips, “let me help, at least.”
“What?”
“You’re trying to fold a thousand cranes in–in three–”
She wouldn't say it, she couldn’t, she didn't have to. Three months. The words unspoken filled the room, harsh, suffocating, all-consuming. Three months and Ava was gone. It wasn’t enough time, it would never be enough time.
