The kid next door has it rough.
There’s nothing much anyone can do about it in a place like the Narrows, but you lead with as much kindness as you can afford and try to make his life a little easier.
He crushes on you the way a lot of kids do on their babysitter, but he’s too young and too scrawny. He fears you’ll never take him seriously.
Life tears you apart, but when the universe puts you in his path years later, Jason thinks he may finally have a shot- even though you’re both a little different. And a little worse.
