    Summary

It arrived early in the day, tied to the leg of a reddened sparrow. The ink was hastily written, scratches replacing words not spelled wrong, but leaning towards a more hostile voice. A great amount of care was put into appearing neutral, but the contents of the letter were still concerning.

And thus, Queen Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, the “Scarlet Queen” in question, summoned her most loyal knight and sent her to investigate.

    -

“Aye, you wound me.” She laughed again. “I did not know who would be approaching! If it ‘twere a man, I would have simply cut him down.”

“You have rather strange morals, knight.”

“And yet, you are approaching me with honor. I respect that.”

“What kind of knight approaches without honor?”

“Ah, Verdant Knight,” her voice was warm, sickeningly so. “I can see why she sent you.”

    Summary

A love letter shouldn’t be this distracting. A pair of sunglasses shouldn’t be this infuriating. And Gigi—smug, insufferable Gigi—should not be looking at her like that. Cecilia’s gears are turning, her wind-up key is spinning, and she is absolutely, definitely not flustered. (She is.)
