A crack.
Followed by footsteps.
A shoe scraping against the concrete floor.
Mafuyu jumps up, awakened from her slumber.
“Who’s there?”
No answer.
Another crack.
She slowly reaches for her arrow.

Summary
It‘s February 12, 2011. 6:30 am. Waaaay to early for Kanade to be awake, but duty calls. She somehow makes it out of her bed and tiredly walks to the kitchen for some breakfast. She opens the fridge and sees her birthday cake from yesterday with the numbers 1 and 4 written on them with purple glazing. She can’t believe she‘s already 14. After a few seconds of letting the cold air from the fridge spread over her face to wake her up, she picks up the cake and sets it on the counter. Out of the corner of her eye she can see the bedroom door of her father slightly open. Seems like he hasn’t slept during the night again.
