“You fainted, straight into my arms.” he looked worried but quite rightly so, she thought. His self-assured humour peeking through as he spoke again. “You know, if you wanted my attention, you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”
“Oh shu’ up.” she mumbled, pressing her palm to her forehead. “I fainted?” she asked in disbelief, the bright June sunshine flooding her office serving only to make the dull throbbing behind her eyes increase ten-fold.
“Yup.” he nodded. “I think Carisi was two seconds away from calling an ambulance but I managed to hold him off.”

Barba hasn't been sleeping well, and his insomnia brings him into the life of a young girl desperate for a home and a family she can call her own. This chance encounter will change his life forever.
I wasn't going to write this when the idea first came to me, because I just wrote a story about Barba fostering a child and this plot felt too similar. In the end I decided I wanted to write it anyway, and even though it centers around Barba it's actually more about Liv, anyway. So happy birthday to Michelle even though this isn't any of the fics she actually wants me to write.
Also, Elliot Stabler does make a brief appearance in this, but I didn't tag him because I didn't want to. As always, he's getting no happy ending here.
