Somehow, the man’s hold on him is painfully familiar, like the edges of a distant memory fraying from reach, each finger fitted so flawlessly between his own. The man’s breath against his ear as he leans in close is warm, and the heat of his body pressed against his side, too, is warm.

    Beside this man, Alhaitham feels warm and safe. Like home.
