Summary
The two men sat alone in the abandoned mineshaft they had called home- one atop a weathered crate and the other on a rickety old chair on its last legs. Their weapons had been discarded for the time being, propped against the railing nearby as there hadn’t been any major attacks since their encounter with Gordon Freeman.
They had been holed up there for god knows how long- Weeks? Months? It was hard to tell when all you saw of the sun was what little trickled down from the surface. It felt like years since they had first traversed the infested mineshaft. The phantom ache in his thigh reminded Sheckley that their arrival couldn’t have been long ago, but the weeks since seemed to stretch on nonetheless.

Griggs & Sheckley are still staying behind to ferry refugees from the city through the mines and up to the nearby resistance outpost. After the arrival of a certain physicist, however, it's been dead quiet on that front. The two are forced to venture out after months in the relative safety of the mines, spurred into action by the fortelling of a waking evil in the outlands. -
