If someone were to ask why River holds room in his heart for Spider, he might say something half true like, “I’ve known him a long time.” Or “we grew up together.” Or maybe even a straight up lie like, “he hasn’t always been like this.”
It probably lies in the same reasoning as to why he humiliates himself for Lamb’s approval, or why he feels the closest to Louisa when she’s pissed at him. He’s some sort of masochist. He didn’t get enough attention as a kid. He has a humiliation fetish. Whatever the reason, River feels a terrible overwhelming sense of fondness for Spider. How awful.

It was the day before he left, and Miles Edgeworth still had not given Phoenix Wright the invitation.
This was silly. He should have dropped off the envelope weeks ago; a crisp, wax-sealed envelope with one letter of invitation to a prosecutor’s annual publicity event held in Munich. Included in the paper was an all-expenses paid plane ticket, a week in a hotel Edgeworth himself most likely even couldn’t afford, all meals and room fees waved away. This was the vacation Phoenix needed, an easy excursion all set up for him. Edgeworth knew that. So why hadn’t he given him the envelope yet?
