“Buck.” Eddie said, his voice soft, almost a whisper, yet it filled the space around them. The hustle of firefighters on the floor below him just background noise. He felt his heart race at the sound of his voice, a melody he had always cherished. He had only spoken his name, and stood opposite him in the loft's kitchen. His uniform perfectly fitted as it always was. In that moment, everything else faded away; it was just the two of them, suspended in time.

Eddie had counted every passing moment that Buck's heart wasn't beating. Every passing moment where Buck was dead.
Eddie had always thought of time as something steady, something that marched forward at a predictable pace. But in those three minutes and seventeen seconds, time became something else entirely - an enemy, a thief stealing away everything that mattered.
