    Summary

Vanity hadn’t existed to Death before, clothing and skin and hair were no concern for the ferryman of the dead. Her charges merely looked at her, their fear of no consequence for the completion of her job.

But as she looked at this beautiful witch, thick hair blowing in the wind, tear-stained cheeks pink from the chilly, autumnal air, dirt-stained frock hugging her waist, Death suddenly felt… inadequate. She looked at her skeletal hands, yellowed over the centuries; she looked at her green and black cloak, tattered around the edges; she looked at her jade crown, one of its gnarled teeth chipped.

or, the process of how the personification of death becomes a person.
