Rukia furrowed her eyebrows before leaning over and laying a palm across Renji’s forehead. Her hand was shockingly cold, and sent a little shiver across Renji’s scalp. That probably wasn’t a great sign, was it?
“You sound fine, but your fever hasn’t broken. I’m afraid you’re not going anywhere just yet.”
“Ah, well!” Renji leaned back in the futon, temporarily forgetting the absurd reality that it was Captain Kuchiki’s bedspread he was snuggled up in. “Guess I’ll just have to tolerate being waited on hand and foot by the house staff. Can’t imagine how you endure it every day.”
“Yeah, yeah. Make yourself at home. And get well quickly, before Nii-sama comes to his senses.”

Summary
Now, Dick stands between two best friends. He tries to prevent Bruce from doing something he'd regret, and he tries to stop Clark’s good intention from making everything worse. Alfred, Jason, and Tim watch, their curled fists and calculating gazes already assessing the battlefield. As years of carefully constructed lies come undone, Dick struggles to keep his world from coming apart.
Then, Dick stands beside a gargoyle, Gotham vast and unfathomable as it stretched out before him. The tips of his shoes stick out an inch over the ledge. He is all alone as he allows himself to come apart. When he falls, Clark catches him and takes him flying instead.
