Summary
“You race?” Neil asks, something predatory in his gaze, all trace of prey gone, lost in the love for the sport. Andrew wants to shake him for it.
“Used to,” Andrew replies, pulling out a cigarette from his pack and lighting it inches from Neil’s face. “Don’t anymore.”
“Too bad,” Neil says, sounding a little broken up about it. Then he reaches forward once Andrew’s taken a drag and places the cigarette in his own lips, hollowing his cheeks out and taking a deep inhale before handing it back. His next words are obscured by smoke. “Would’ve liked to race you.”

Summary
Neil only knows how to be obsessed with things. He knows some would regard this as a flaw, but for him he knows it to be a necessary part of his survival. When he was growing up, it was learning how to be as quiet as possible. When he was on the run, it was learning how to be as fast as possible. As a free, relatively out of danger adult, he is just trying to work out how to stick to one fucking obsession at a time. With mixed results.

“And when he’s gone?” Andrew asked.
Then I’m gone too, Neil thought, but didn’t say. There likely wouldn’t be any reason for Neil to run, but he was going to, anyway. Everyone looking for him would be dead or in jail by the time the FBI was done, but Neil had never been taught to stay in one place. He wasn’t sure if he even knew how. All Neil knew how to do was disappear.
“I’ll be alone, I guess,” Neil said with a shrug.
“Lucky you,” Andrew said. He flicked his cigarette butt off the roof and onto the sidewalk below them.
“Yeah,” Neil said. He stubbed his cigarette out on the sole of his shoe and tossed it over the side of the building after Andrew’s. “Lucky me.”or: neil is an insomniac. andrew is going to beijing. they aren't supposed to meet, but they do anyway.
