Castiel steadies himself as he stands across from Dean in the living room. Everyone else has gone to bed. He’s been back for several hours and no one has mentioned his confession—his declaration—his happiest moment. Maybe Dean didn’t share it. Maybe he held it close to his heart. Maybe it would be their secret.
They’re alone. Dean has a beer in his hand. “So,” he says. “About that goodbye.”
Castiel fights the blush rising in his cheeks. “I just wanted you to know I loved you.”
“I knew that,” says Dean.
Castiel looks at him—waits for more. It dawns on him very very slowly, how much he’s embarrassed himself.
