Summary
As much as Tony seemed used to physical blows, he didn’t seem to handle verbal ones very well, and as James got to know him over the year he had come to recognize when Tony was just on the edge of a meltdown. It went against his very instincts, made him question everything he ever stood for since he became the Winter Soldier; Winter didn’t do friendships. He didn’t walk little old grannies across the street. And he definitely wasn’t the kind to let someone cry on his shoulder. He wasn’t the kind of man to offer sweets (dark chocolates with a chewy caramel center that Tony loved so much) to people who were dissociating in the middle of a panic attack either. Didn’t mean he hadn’t done that once or twice though. Maybe three times.

Summary
When Tony stumbles across Bucky hiding in plain sight in Romania, he doesn't know what to make of it. Bucky doesn't seem to remember the Winter Soldier, and Tony isn't about to remind him. The real problem is that while Tony is busy pretending that he doesn't know who Bucky or the Winter Soldier is, Bucky is doing the exact same thing and feigning complete ignorance of Iron Man's true identity. When the game of pretend is up, they'll be forced to confront the only thing that is real - the feelings they share and a bond so deep that it defies all logic.
