Summary
The air is heavier in the Dreamlands. It weighs you down, step by step, sinking your feet into the sand until you can barely raise them to walk. It sticks to you, fibrous and sharp, like thousands of veins trying to dig deep into your flesh to make you a part of them, too. They hold you back, tugging at your skin, threatening to rip you apart if you move forward, embracing you the longer you stay in place until their presence starts to feel comforting rather than invasive and the punctures they leave as they crawl inside no longer inspire that deep, primal repulsion of parasitism within you.
The other Sinners choke on it at first, not used to breathing in and feeling pricking and viscous run down their throats. Some of them start coughing, trying to get it out, but it only intensifies the feeling, lips prickling with static electricity as their attempts fail one after the other. The Guide has stayed inside, his companion surely making a lousy attempt at describing the pulsating, membranous sky and the never-ending wasteland; he will be of little help here.
