“Tsu-chan,” Umemiya says for the third time in thirty seconds. They’re sitting on the roof, Tsubaki reapplying her makeup that had melted in the summer heat and Umemiya doing, well, nothing.
“Ume-chan, do not say that you’re bored again,” Tsubaki responds.
“I wasn’t going to say that,” Umemiya lies. Tsubaki stares at him from over her compact mirror. Umemiya locks eyes with her, unable to look away.
“What were you going to say?” She asks with a giggle.
Umemiya looks at her. He’d do anything to make her laugh, he thinks. He gets up, shrugs off his uniform shirt so he’s only wearing a tank top and says, “Spar with me?”

Tsubaki and Ume both jumped at a loud sound from across the rooftop. Sakura appeared to have just dropped a full bag of soda cans, but he wasn’t listening to Suo chide him for his clumsiness. Instead, he was blushing furiously and looking in their direction. 'Oh,' Tsubaki thought, 'I must have triggered Sakura’s romance detector.' That was nothing new.
But then Tsubaki realized: Sakura wasn’t looking at them.
He was looking at Ume.
