Summary
Despite being childhood sweethearts, Geoffrey never expected their kind of love to be easy. Whatever difficulties he'd braced himself for, he hadn't anticipated how deeply Jonathan could hurt him.

Summary
1917. The Western Front. Geoffrey McCullum and a squad of Priwen hunters, pursuing their crusade hidden amongst the ranks of a mortal war are badly injured in a shell attack. Taken to a military hospital in the ruins of an old Chateaux, McCullum recovers under the careful eye of Dr Jonathon Reid.
1918. A Monster wearing an Old Friends face parades about the streets of London.
1919. Reid Adapts to the new normal.

Summary
After a hunt that took a turn for the worse, McCullum gets emotionally shattered due to the loss of two of his hunters. Feeling vulnerable with grief and the return of a poisonous voice, telling him his vampire lover is no different from others of his kind, he needs Reid to bring him back from the depths of his mind, and to reassure him that he's the same kind and gentle vampire he fell in love with all those years ago.
