“And the ritual?” Reed asked, his voice breaking a little. He kept his head down, staring resolutely at the carpet. “You won’t… attempt it again?”
There was a moment of silence.
And then Victor reached down and grabbed Reed’s chin, lifting his head up until their gazes met, his neck at an odd angle, his back tight and arched.
“I have every intention of keeping my end of the bargain, Richards,” he said, his voice smooth and controlled, but Reed could hear the rage brimming underneath. He's angry. “As long as you keep yours.”
Reed glared stubbornly. “I don’t go back on my word.”
“Trust me, I know.”
“I don’t need the collar, Vic. Or the handcuffs. I won’t run—”
“What,” Victor said, his grip on Reed’s chin tightening to a painful degree, “makes you think you have any say in what happens from now on? Hm?”

Victor almost destroys everything trying to bring his mother back from the dead. To keep the world safe, Reed will do anything.
He asks Victor to take him instead.
