Vi’s life had been pretty good recently. Her family had just helped her apply for colleges, and she’d found out she’d gotten into one of Zaun’s best schools on a hockey scholarship. Hockey had been her passion since she was about ten, ever since the first time she played on a team. There was something about the rush of the game—the speed, the strategy, and the pure adrenaline—that made her feel alive.
As she lay sprawled out on her bed, staring at the ceiling, Vi started to zone out, her mind drifting between memories of her best plays and wondering what college life would be like. Her thoughts were interrupted by the buzz of her phone on the nightstand. She grabbed it and saw a text from Jinx:
“Breakfast in twenty, sis. Don’t be late.”
Vi smirked. Jinx was nothing if not consistent. For the past year, their family had made it a tradition to meet up for pancakes on the first Sunday of every month. No matter how busy life got, Vander always insisted they set aside time to be together. And honestly? Vi wouldn’t miss it for the world.
