However some of the 118 soon notice that things are off with Maddie and Doug's relationship. When Eddie realises that Maddie is his husband's sister it makes things even more complicated and just increases their worry for Maddie.

Then one day the 118 gets a probie with a name Chimney has occasionally heard in her descriptions of why she was crying. One day after a call involving a crazy wedding, the 118 talk about weddings and some of the stuff Buck says is parallel to the things Chimney has heard his soulmate crying about.

It is Buck's graduation, the day he goes from being a probie to a fully fledged firefighter. The 118 are all there but for Buck the one person missing is Maddie. After the ceremony when they are all celebrating he hears a voice. And it is Maddie. He is desperate to see her but hurt at her for leaving him so he doesn't turn around. When he tells her to leave she does but then Chimney calls for her to stop, asking if she needs a paramedic to check her. That is when Buck turns around and when he sees Maddie he is horrified.
