    All that matters is that Spock is alive. Alive and free to choose whatever makes him happy, even if that choice is Vulcan, another posting, or some other ship. Even if that choice isn’t Kirk. It hurts, of course. Bitterly. But anything is bearable as long as Spock is alive.

    Or, Kirk thinks Spock doesn't remember that they were in love and tries to let him go.
