It took Dick a moment to realize where Kory was going with that until it clicked. Was this about Barbara? Had Dawn told Kory about his past with Gotham’s Police Commissioner?
“Are you jealous?” Kory suddenly asked, fiery green eyes narrowed on him.
And she looked good. So damn good not even a psychiatrist could escape her other-worldly charm.
For several seconds Dick just blinked at her, weighing what to say…trying to avoid the red line he’d drawn when it came to Kory and whatever it was that fluttered in his chest at the mention of her name, the twitch of her amused smile or the way her eyes lit up like the Northern Lights.
Dick wanted to restrain himself, but the words tumbled out faster than his brain could process or organize.
“I thought we’d always have each other’s backs. In good times and in the rough. How do you expect me to feel, Kory?”

Dick doesn’t remember how the tall, braided woman—Kory’s sister—got here. All he can see are the purple covers Kory’s clenching as her body tosses and sweats in delirium. All he can remember are Gar and Conner’s faces, sheet white, wide in horror, when Kory had collapsed in the living room for no apparent reason. All he knows is that no one on Earth has been diagnosed with Kory’s condition before and at least one of them, in this room, can help save her.
“You said you can help,” he grits out, pinning his gaze on Blackfire for an answer. “Do what you came here for and then leave.”
He’s not heard Kory talk much about Blackfire, but he had eyes. She wasn’t a good person and maybe one day he’d find out why from Kory herself.
