His voice sounded playful and cruel at the same time. Edwin could hear the sickening smile still. Then he heard the heels of Simon’s expensive shoes hit the floor one after the other. Click, clack, click, clack, click… The steps grew faster, closer. And Edwin felt himself speed up in response, not only in his own steps but heart and breath as well.

How long exactly nobody can tell as time operates in perverse ways inside the void. He pleated to whatever god must have punished him with this fade to kill him instead just to make it stop. Had he known at the time that the only god present was he himself it only would have made him cry out louder in despair."
