The fever has undoubtedly exacerbated the delusion of it, as well, a factor that may complicate things. It’s different, though—she wasn’t scared like this when it was happening, not in any way that showed on her face. Franziska was strong that muggy spring day as she was anywhere else, chin pointed high and mouth set firm as she poured hot blood all over his car upholstery.
Miles forgot, sometimes, how much of Franziska was a mask.

Summary
She's a law prodigy, set to pass the Bar in mere weeks, but Miles is not even sure Franziska understands what a sunburn is with the life she's lived. Any attempts to teach her this information fail, of course—it's not especially wise to act like you know more than Franziska about anything, even when you very much do.
Just let her make her own mistakes, Miles has found himself repeating compulsively, like a mantra. And this repetition works, for so many other idiots he's grown to love over the years—but they all are, crucially, not his baby sister. In this and in all else, she is a curious exception.

Papa had said 'knights in shining karma,' and Franziska wishes that was a little more literal, because she thinks perhaps if she had a sturdy, sharpened sword in her hand and the demons of the people were literal manifestations she could slice to ribbons, the cold burning in her chest might be assuaged.
But she’s a knight only in metaphor and her riding crop’s a little dull, so instead she prosecutes.

Franziska blinks once, twice. “Accompany you?” she shakes her head, looking at him incredulously. “To—to Gregory Edgeworth’s channeling, Miles? Am I to understand that’s what you’re asking?”
He balls up a little, fidgeting with his sleeve. A short nod, strong even in its lack of confidence.
