In Chapter 12 of Rhythm of War, Kaladin goes through an episode of anxiety and depression, during which Syl intervenes by fetching Adolin to drag him away and prevent him from harming himself. Adolin takes him to a Winehouse where Shallan waits for them, and they spend some time together, helping Kal cheer up.That is where this story diverges from the canon, as a moment of weakness and vulnerability from Kaladin starts off a slow, passionate, and difficult romance between the three of them. Or the five of them, if you count Veil and Radiant.
