Summary
Rain battered his face, soaking his feathers and weighing him down. His wings ached just from the effort it took to keep him in the air. His eyes stung, forcing him to keep them squinted. He had to keep going, he couldn’t stop. If he stopped, he would be dead. He didn’t want to die, not now anyways. He couldn’t die. Not when he couldn’t remember the last time his mom told him she loved him. Not when he couldn’t recall what it felt like to be held by another person. Not when Kacchan would think that it's his own fault. Izuku just couldn’t do that. He wanted to live. He wanted to fly.
His head cocked towards the side when he heard the low wooshing sound of something hurdling towards the air, straight towards him. His reflexes weren’t fast enough. That’s what he gets for panicking. He lets out an angered screech as the net wraps around him. And suddenly he’s falling. He struggles hard, gripped at the rope with his beak and talons, furiously flapping his wings. It's no use though. The ground catches him.

“But I have a quirk,” Izuku whispered to himself, standing on the roof of a tall building.
‘Can a quirkless person be a hero like you?’

All Might had left him on this roof. Bakugou told him to jump off a roof. Izuku looked up at the sky and let his tears fall. He wanted to jump, he really did, but it wouldn’t do anything. His wings always came out when he fell.
He would know, he’s fallen five times.

He doesn’t want to say it, but he has to. “You’re a lot like him,” Katsuki admits, and then shakes his head. “But I don’t know how much of that is really you and how much is just your imitation.”
Izuku died alone at the bottom of a waterlogged ravine. Izuku is alive beside Katsuki beneath the setting sun. The two are not mutually exclusive.
