Summary
Will Byers hasn’t seen Mike Wheeler in years. Five, probably. But, here he is, in the bookstore down the street from Will’s apartment. At least, a photo of him. A promotional flyer, advertising a new novel by Mike Wheeler, stares at Will like it’s been waiting for him. Will takes a step closer to read the sign, his heart doing a weird thing in his chest.

Summary
Mike overhears Will telling Jonathan that he’s afraid to come out to his friends and decides the best solution to this is to come out to Will first (even though he’s totally straight), except instead of coming out to him, Will takes Mike on a journey of self-acceptance, unraveling internalized homophobia and introducing him to queer culture. Mike really hopes this doesn’t awaken anything in him (spoiler: it definitely does).

Summary
Mike and Will both have decent lives carved out for themselves. Will is thriving in New York except for one thing; none of his attempts at a relationship ever last longer than a few weeks. Will knows the constant phone calls and weekend visits from his best friend aren't helping, and decides to call Mike and tell him the truth; that he needs space from him so he can finally move on.
Mike, who had no idea Will still harbored any feelings for him, gets on a train immediately and shows up in the city at Will's doorstep, ready to finally confess what he'd been holding back for years.

“Mike.” He let out an amused laugh which made Mike’s mouth audibly snap shut, his teeth clicking together. “You have nothing to make up for. I just needed some… space. I should have said something, I’m the one who should be apologizing. I wanted to reach out but it never felt like the right time.”
“Oh. Is now the right time?” Mike said it as if trying to hide how much the answer meant to him.
“Yeah.” His voice was barely above a whisper.
