Summary
Oh, how you wish you had never laid eyes on him!
The ‘him’ in question is, of course, Cassian Andor. You’ve known him for a year now-- though you had heard of him long before you met him-- and you’ve had feelings for him for almost as long.
You’ve never really told him this though, and when all of your mutual friends had started insisting that he felt the same for you, you’d eventually begun to believe them.
More fool you.

Summary
“___, stop,” he says, cutting you off mid-sentence, but trying his hardest to keep his voice soft, his words gentle, trying and succeeding, “I’m sorry. You don’t owe me an explanation. We can just never talk about this, pretend it didn’t happen. Just go back to how we used to be.”
“That’s not what…” you trail off, hesitant, eyes flashing down to the floor, clasping your hands together so tight that he can see the shapes of your knuckles, raised through taut skin.
And he finds that he has to fight rather hard to push down the urge to walk up to you and take you in his arms, fight to remind himself that you don’t want that, don’t want him.

Summary
He takes a step towards you as he speaks, getting dangerously close to completely invading your personal space, for the second time in the span of minutes.
“I wasn’t sure if you felt the same way,” you admit finally, blushing even as you say the words, “I guess I was hoping you’d make a move.”
It’s enough to get a smile out of him, the kind of smile that starts in his eyes and makes his cheeks dimple, the smile that first drew your attention.
[In which a late night study session leads to Cassian and Reader confessing their feelings for each other.]

Summary
“I don’t want you to leave,” he confesses, and now finally, his eyes are undisguised as he looks at you, looks at you as if you are his very heart. “I can’t bear the thought of it. I’m in love with you, ___, you’re…you’re everything to me. And I can live without you, sure, but it would suck and I’d really rather not.”
“Are you asking me to stay, Tony?”

Summary
“So tell me I’m a monster, tell me to get out of your house, tell me to leave!!”
“I’m not going to do that!”
“Matt,” you whisper, and defeated in the face of his stubbornness, you finally give up, sinking to the floor as you feel your strength leaving you.
“What do you want me to say ___? That I forgive you,” and now you hear some of your frustration in his tone, “there’s nothing to forgive, you only did what you had to do. And what you did- it doesn’t change who you are, you’re still a good person.”

Summary
“I’ve never tried to stop you before, I’m not going to start now,” you pause, swallow, and continue, “and I won’t in the future either. I know you feel that you’ve got to do this.”
“That’s it?” he is still hesitant, still lingering in that state of uncertainty to which you are both almost complete strangers,
“You’re not angry? You don’t think I’m suicidal, or selfish, or arrogant?”
“You could never be any of those things.”
“Then what am I, ___?”
Everything, you’re everything

Summary
Matt hears the click-bang-whoosh of a bullet being released from a gun first. Then a soft gasp that is so incongruous he can’t help but take note of it. Everything blurs into a singular crimson mass after that.
Seconds later, he notices the searing pain that has shot through his side, and even as the hand he presses over his ribs comes away unbloodied, he knows.
He knows exactly who the person that has thrown themselves in front of the onrushing bullet is. You are his soulmate.

Summary
“What exactly is this relationship to you?"
He waits, expectant, while you repeatedly remind yourself that you do love him, and after about eleven repetitions you achieve sufficient conviction- you don’t want to lose him because you’re too shy to tell him what exactly he is to you. So you take a deep breath, shut your eyes tight, open them again, and start speaking.
“I.. I’ve never been particularly good with expressing my emotions but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about you because believe me, Matt, I do,” you pause, firmly push away the growing sense of embarrassment, and plow on, “You mean the world to me.”

Summary
“What makes you think either of us can resist the other?”
He looks genuinely shocked at your question, and it takes him the better part of a minute to come up with an answer.
“You’re the one who’s always preaching practicality and logic. I thought you’d agree with me.”
“A month ago, I would have.”
“What happened then?”
“You know what,” you still speak calmly but when he doesn’t respond in any way, you continue in a tone that you know displays agitation to someone as perceptive as him, “I met you.”

Summary
“I’m falling in love with you ___.” He speaks softly, with conviction so absolute that you almost miss the discordant note of fear in his voice. Almost, but not quite, and so you latch onto it, choosing to ignore the confession he has made because you don’t know what to say to the fact that he thinks he’s in love with you, not when he has only just pushed you away.
“You make that sound like it’s a bad thing,” you manage to get out, your tone questioning and entirely incapable of conveying your anger.

Summary
“Help me understand, Matt, why did you feel that you had to keep something so important from me?”
Minutes pass in silence, each one tightening the knot in your chest, as you wait for your lover to answer you. And finally, he sighs heavily, as if preparing himself for the worst, and starts to speak.
“I thought you would be upset, and I just.. I didn’t want to hurt you ___. That was what I was thinking, that out of all the things in my life, you are the one person I cannot bear to lose.”

Summary
Minutes later, a figure dressed completely in black emerges from the room and you stop breathing for a bit as you recognize your savior- it is the man they call the devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
Because in that moment, you feel the pieces of a puzzle that has been troubling your subconscious for days begin to come together. This man addresses you by name and speaks to you in a voice that is only too familiar.
“Matt?” You end up sounding incredulous, though you are fairly certain you already know the answer to your question.

Summary
“He killed someone ___, a boy- no more than ten. I thought I had saved him and then he told me that he had finished the job. That I didn’t understand what the boy was capable of.”
“Oh, Matt, I’m so sorry.” You drop his hands to draw him into an embrace and he tugs you into his lap, arms encircling your waist. He buries his head in the crook of your neck for a few moments, as if gathering his strength and then he presses a kiss to your jawline, and begins to tell you about everything that has happened in the time you were away.

Summary
“I don’t like this,” the words come out no louder than a whisper, and the look in Bucky’s eyes as he stops his pacing and turns to face you tells you that he feels the same. Just as the firm set of his jaw makes it clear that he is going to go through with this.. this madness, anyway.
“You don’t have to do it yourself,” he says finally, still holding your gaze, trying to smile despite the sadness that is drowning out the hope in his eyes, “___, one of the doctors can-”
“No!” you exclaim, cutting him off before he can get any further, “if you insist on going through with this, then I insist on being the one to say the words.”

Summary
“What are you thinking, doll?” he asks, after a few minutes pass in silence.
You can practically hear his smile in his voice, and it makes your own grin stretch just a little bit wider.
“I’m thinking about yesterday,” you admit, cheeks warming a little.
“It was a good day,” he agrees, sitting up beside you with one arm thrown around your shoulders, surrounding you in his warmth.

Summary
“Come to say goodbye, ___?” he’s reaching for nonchalance, failing. Before this mess with the Accords began—a lifetime ago—you might have laughed and called him out on it. Now, well now, after everything that has happened, you care just as much as he does (far too much).
“What do you think?”
It’s a cruel question, you know that much even as you’re asking it. But considering the decision you’ve already made, there’s a part of you—the brittle, strained part of your mind that makes sure you can never completely trust anyone—that needs to hear his answer.

Summary
“I’m sorry,” he breathes, left hand ghosting over your hip, only actually touching you when your eyes flash up to meet his gaze.
“No,” even that single word is choked in its urgency, shrouded in the pain of a half-formed sob, “no, don’t apologize, James. This isn’t your fault. It’s just…”
You trail off, unable to continue. Because ever since he had gotten hurt, the fact that you might lose him at any point has become blatantly obvious, and even considering that possibility hurts so much that you can hardly breathe.
[I strongly suggest reading the first part in the series before reading this.]
