Summary
“Pro hero… requesting immediate medical aid…”
As he came back to reality, spotted whites bled slowly into his blackened vision. Cale couldn't make sense of anything— the world was a blur, a shifting haze that was refusing to settle. His body and mind felt at odds, like they were pulling in opposite directions. He couldn't focus; it was like they were tearing themselves apart.
What a fucking hassle.
“…a child. Excessive amounts of blood coming from all over."
Blood?
Cale didn’t remember any family being nearby. No one should be hurt. Not like this. And he made sure the children—wait.
His stomach dropped.
Child…?
Child.
Child…!
The children!

Summary
While drinking at a pub, Cale hears of an ancient power that will let him reach the remote control without getting up.
Of course, remote controls for televisions are not a thing in the world of Birth of a Hero. But there are plenty of other things that one might need to grab without standing up. Like food from the cooler. Or clothes in the closet. Or the book on the shelf on the other side of the room.
Hence, Cale — the epitome of lazy and slacker — nods with interest as he listens attentively to the drunken man rambling about it beside him.
