Summary
After his relationship with Hallie implodes over having children, Matt finds himself alone again without any prospects of building the family he’s always wanted. When he unexpectedly goes into his first heat in years, Matt’s alpha friend Kelly lends him a helpful knot so he doesn’t feel like he’s going to spend the rest of his life alone.
Kelly is hiding how much pain he is in and having a mini-rut helping out Matt is an opportunity to let his hormones distract him from the mess his life is in.

Summary
She watches as Matt twists around suddenly as she speaks, and barely registers the look of panic that flashes across his face as he moves towards her as there is a loud noise and suddenly she is face down on the floor. Her ears are ringing, and she can feel something resting on top of her as she coughs and opens her eyes, squeezing them shut tightly as she spots the flames nearby. As the ringing in her ears fades, she can hear the shouting going on around her, and she opens her eyes again as the weight on top of her shifts and Matt’s voice speaks up.
