Summary
As Mark descends the basement stairs, the familiar, putrid scent of decaying flesh wafts into his nostrils like a miasma, stale and dry as it hangs heavily in the air. He takes careful, quiet steps until he reaches the bottom of the stairs, grunting softly to himself as he blindly palms at the wall for the light switch.

Summary
Hoffman doesn't come back that day. Strahm turns on the news, listens to it while he makes himself dinner. There's no mention of Hoffman, or Jigsaw, or the ugliest motherfucker in Jersey turning up dead in a ditch somewhere. His grilled cheese is thoroughly burnt by the time he bites into it, and he hurls it at the wall in lieu of having another breakdown. Hoffman's sits on the plate across the table, perfectly cooked and growing cold. Strahm throws his sandwich at the wall for good measure, then follows it with the plate when he sees the greasy smudge it leaves behind.

Summary
Peter Strahm makes the life-ending mistake of throwing Mark Hoffman into the glass box and locking him inside. But before the walls can finish closing in on him, Strahm wakes up in the same spot, thrown back through time, twelve years in the past.
