Twelve sees death everywhere. White feathers, slowly rising into the sky. It’s sort of peaceful, and sometimes he spends hours on the rooftop watching them. He likes to think of a creature so big that when it molts, its feathers drift for miles and that’s what he is seeing. Or maybe it’s several creatures, kindly angels, psychopomps.

Because of that, she picked the fragments of her broken bones and tried to restructure herself, to be capable of standing up. It didn’t work; grief would still have to press her down for a few years. So she tried another way, from outer. That's how, just like what happens to arthropods, she went through an ecdysis and got herself a brand new exoskeleton— exo, not endo. A strong facade.

you don’t announce yourself, but she speaks to you anyway. “my dad died, max.” stating the obvious, but there’s the whip again. you think of rachel’s disappearance and feel like an ugly pendulum in her life. your entrance and exits announce tragedies.
“he fucking died,” she says, and you realize that birds are creatures of the sky, but ducks waste away in ponds and peacocks are tethered to the ground.
“sorry,” you say, finally settling on apology. you feel like coughing up algae.

"Someone else," Sasuke says, too tired and too tense to care that he is giving commands to an ancient power. "Not him."
The kyuketsuki lifts a hand and for a terrible moment Sasuke is afraid that it will poke him in the forehead, but it just pulls a strand of Itachi's hair behind its ear and blinks at him with mangekyou eyes.
"You didn't expect this to be easy, did you?"
Sasuke grits his teeth. "No."
The sand is like a thousand tiny fingers all scratching and pressing against his skin.
