    He offered Garraty one final glance, taking note of his concern. Con-fucking-cern. Something he’d never been offered in all his years of living. He took a mental picture of the way Garraty bit down against his lip, suppressing his screams. The way his bloodstained hands shook against him. The way his chest heaved. The tears in his eyes that only screamed regret because maybe the kid who always screamed, and fought and carried around a knife wasn’t really all that bad—maybe he just needed a goddamn friend. But it was too late. Now, this was finality.

    Fuck you, he thought to himself.
