Better to send his spirit servants to keep a watchful eye on the Jingyun Temple Master so he doesn't have to deal with the knot of emotions in his chest.

"You think I'm insane, sending one of you to follow Boya around all the time, don't you?" Qingming's voice was light but it carried something darker in the undertones as his eyes flickered.
"No, Master." Snow Hound replied, unflinching in the face of Qingming's ire. He'd practically raised the half demon, there wasn't much Qingming could do that really scared him.

Qingming was a despicable man, Boya decided, even though he already knew that. Utterly despicable.

At the command of Emperor He Shouyue the priestess Fangyue from the powerful Jingyun tribes has been abducted, and is now held captive in the Imperial Palace. In a desperate attempt to save the Priestess, the tribe's connection to the gods, Warlord Boya, the famous Vermillion Bird warrior marches the Jingyun army of the Zhuque, Baihu, Xuanwu and Qinglong tribes towards the capital, gathering what information and resources he can on the way.
When they attacked a city on the way to the capital looking for information on the Empire's Plans, Boya had hoped to find books, or at least some some cowardly scholars who might be intimidated into talking. Instead he finds the scholar Qingming, who isn't scared at all, and even seems willing to help the tribe.

Frost bit over the pale, handsome face of the corpse, dressed in black leather and silk armour, his hands folded over his chest. The weapons that the corpse had once worn across the small of his back now adorned the spirit servant who shared his face, standing a step behind Qing Ming as the Yin Yang Master checked his work.
Satisfied, Qing Ming turned away. His jaw clenched as he glanced at Bo Ya, averting his gaze as though in embarrassment. “It’s done,” Qing Ming said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “As long as I’m alive, the spell preserving your body will hold. I’ll find a way to return your spirit to it.”
