“And why do you have to pretend?” Techno asks, his fingers lightly brushing over his secondaries.
“Because,” Tommy grumbles, sitting up, eyeing Techno carefully, “Appearances and shit, I dunno, Wilbur’s reasons are stupid.” He says, watching as Techno starts to try and preen his feathers.
His instincts rear up in the back of his head, and he pulls his wing away jerkily, moving to a crouching position. Techno lets his wing go without a fight, watching as the golden feathers disappear from his hands.
Or Tommy ends up befriending Techno, a dangerous god, just to spite Wilbur.

Tommy wasn't stupid.
He knew what his family did whenever they made excuses of overtime shifts and plans with friends.
From the videos online, their mechanisms were the same regardless of what costumes or masks they wore. He recognised their styles of speech and the insults they threw at heroes. Beyond the voice modifiers, Tommy could tell.
His family were villains.
But he didn't care. Because they were his family. Even if they didn't know he knew.
So why did they continue to lie to him?
