Summary
His boyfriend had been acting strange since the weekend after the Jefferson Boys’ Basketball game on Friday. Even though they had exchanged their usual goofy texts and memes during the weekend, TJ had kept declining to facetime. Normally, they’d also hang out at each other’s houses, but TJ had said his mom needed him to stay home and that he couldn’t have anyone over even Cyrus. Cyrus was beginning to wonder if maybe TJ was getting tired of him. Their relationship had already lasted longer than typical middle school ones. They’d already been together for five months, two weeks, three days, and thirteen hours. That was a huge milestone.

Summary
“So back at Andi’s party when I held your hand,” TJ started, biting his lip.
“It felt,” Cyrus said, a million adjectives popping into his head and not a single one fit the situation. “It felt better than exhilarating. It felt right.”
“Yeah,” TJ whispered, leaning in closer.
Cyrus’ heart started to ba-dump, ba-dump even faster, the fastest he had ever felt it ba-dump almost like a horse running away from a T-rex. Though Cyrus wondered why he was thinking about dinosaurs and horses at a time like this. He and Buffy hadn’t even talked about what he should do if TJ were to lean in and kiss him. That’s what this was right? Cyrus’ hand felt even sweatier and his cheeks felt like they were scorching hot even as he stood on his tip toes ready to meet TJ half way. -

Summary
A few minutes later the two of them were holding hands and making their way down the beach. Cyrus had opted for a light blue shirt with a penguin on it and matching light blue swim shorts and flip-flops while TJ had a white tank top with green swim shorts that matched his eyes. Cyrus had loved picking that pair out. He honestly loved doing all of the domestic things while TJ took him out on dates and showered him with affection. They got down to the beach that was already crowded with throngs of people.
“Let’s claim this spot,” TJ said, pointing to an open space beside an elderly couple sunbathing to their right and some guys playing volleyball way to their left.
“Got it,” Cyrus said taking out his rainbow beach umbrella and matching beach blanket big enough for the two of them.
“What do you want to do first?” TJ asked as they sat down.
Cyrus ran his hands through the sand next to him. “Sandcastle?”
“You know the trick to the best one?” TJ said, immediately getting up to draw a line around their soon to be sandcastle.
“What’s that?” -

Summary
*See my "Operation Proposal" fic for the full summary of the original story. This fic adds two extra scenes for Chapters 5 and 6 respectively.
Cyrus rubbed at his eyes feeling like he’d been crying the entire night. He reached out, touching TJ’s chest. His heart immediately calmed when he felt the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. He’d learned that there was a level of fragility to loving someone. That, despite all his psychiatric training, made him realize that he needed to be strong for his boyfriend but also for himself. He traced TJ’s lips with his finger, memorizing the curve of his boyfriend’s chin and his dimples where he smiled along with the wrinkles on his forehead.
