“A missed check-in doesn’t necessarily mean something went wrong,” Murray says comfortingly, and Tim shoots him a glare that would bring a lesser man to his knees as he continues tearing the paper in front of him into minuscule shreds. “Lucy has missed check-ins before.”
“Not like this,” Tim murmurs, because she hasn’t, okay? She’s missed check-ins by minutes, and she’s missed check-ins during shorter operations when she had backup.
But she’s never, ever been four hours late for a check-in when she was deep undercover.
“Not like this,” Murray agrees, and he sighs as he falls into the chair beside Tim. He runs his hand through his already messy hair and frowns as he stares at his silent cell phone.
They sit and they wait.
But the phone never rings.
