When she approached, neither of the girls looked up.
"Hi, Maia," Sophie said with a big smile on her face. She was sad that Maia had forgotten about her, but she could pretend that everything was okay.
Maia looked at her with wide eyes, inspected her from top to bottom, and said dryly "Hi."
They spent a few seconds in silence, both looking at each other.
"I was waiting for you. Outside." Sophie said, with no ill intent.
"Oh, yeah, sorry, I forgot," Maia said, not sounding sorry at all.
